Everything You Need To Know About Eyelash Extensions

At Kellie & Company, we offer a variety of eyelash services. We offer different eyelash extensions looks and styles, eyelash tinting for your natural lashes, and lash lifting/perming for your natural lashes as well. It’s amazing what a little lash enhancement can do for your whole look! Let’s talk about some common questions we hear about eyelash extensions and other eyelash services.

What is the difference between volume, classic, and mixed eyelash extensions?

Volume eyelash extensions give a more fluffy and full look. There are 2-5 false lashes adhered to one of your natural lashes. Volume sets and fills are our most popular eyelash extensions service. Classic eyelash extensions give more of a naturally enhanced look. One false lash adheres to one natural lash. Mixed/Hybrid eyelash extensions give a full but natural look. Some natural lashes have multiple false lashes adhered, and some natural lashes only have one false lash adhered.

How do you care for eyelash extensions?

  • Do not wet or steam for the first 24 hours after application

  • Only use oil-free eye and facial products

  • Sleep on your back or side

  • Clean and brush daily

  • Avoid mascara

  • Do not curl with a lash curler, or perm

  • Do not pull or rub lashes

  • Keep up with your appointments

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Eyelash extensions last 2-3 weeks. We recommend getting eyelash fills every 2-3 weeks to maintain your glamorous look and to keep your natural lashes healthy. We find that after 3 weeks people start to pull/rub/and pick at the false lashes more, which is damaging to your natural lashes.

Why don’t my eyelash extensions last longer?

There can be a combination of any one of these factors. But the most common reason why your lash extensions are not lasting 2-3 weeks as they should are:

  • You’re using oil or cream-based eye/facial products. Oils and creams will break down the lash glue faster.

  • You’re not cleaning your eyelashes properly. You should use a designated eyelash extension cleanser about 2-3 times a week.

  • You might be sleeping on your face more than you think.

  • You are touching your eyes too much

  • You might have “hooded” eyes. Hooded eyelids might be resting on your lash line, which introduces more natural body oils to your lashes.

  • You’re getting them too wet during showering/bathing

The lash glue was not as fresh as it should be

  • You might be in the middle of a natural eyelash growth cycle.

What is maintenance like for eyelash extensions?

You should be scheduling eyelash extension fills every 2-3 weeks. Fill appointments usually take 60 minutes. The first set appointment usually takes 2 hours.

What if eyelash extensions are uncomfortable?

It’s common for eyelash extensions to feel a little weird for the first couple of hours after getting them applied for the first time. A little eye irritation for a couple of hours is also common. However, any stinging, scratching, or pain is not normal. Lasting discomfort may indicate an allergic reaction or error in the application. Please contact your lash technician if you are still experiencing any discomfort after 2 hours from application time. We may try a different glue, or lighter lashes to make it more comfortable for you.

What are the different styles or looks that I can achieve with eyelash extensions?

Some different styles you can achieve with eyelash extensions are a natural eye, open eye, cat eye, or doll eye. We can customize any look for you!

Why would I want to get eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are great for achieving an easy and glamorous look! It’s so nice to wake up and feel a little more “put together” with no effort at all! Eyelash extensions make going on vacation super easy. You don’t have to worry about packing tons of makeup. And you look fabulous for all the beach and poolside pictures! Eyelash extensions are the perfect “treat yourself” gift. It feels amazing to lie down for an hour while you get pampered, and then not worry about your lashes again for the next 2-3 weeks while you slay at work and home all day every day!

What is eyelash tinting?

Eyelash tinting is darkening your natural lashes. Black or dark brown is most common. Tinting will not add volume or length. But it does make a huge difference, especially for lighter hair! Eyelash tinting usually lasts 6 weeks. This is a great option for those who want a very natural look but still enhanced a little bit.

What is eyelash lifting?

Eyelash lifting (or perming) is giving your natural lashes more of a bend or curl. It helps to open your eyes and make your lashes look longer. You can lift and tint your lashes in the same visit to achieve more of a difference in your lash enhancement look.

How long do lifting and tinting last?

Eyelash lifting and/or tinting lasts about 6 weeks. The facial products you use to cleanse your face will make a difference in longevity. Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide will make the tint fade faster. And the strength and integrity of your natural lashes will also affect how effective your lash lift is. You can tint your lashes as often as every 4 weeks. You can lift/perm your lashes every 6-8 weeks.

Is there a product that can help my natural lashes grow?

YES! We recommend Babe Lash or Revitalash. Both can be purchased at Kellie & Company.
