Embrace Your Natural Curls: A Guide to Curly Hair Care

Curly hair comes in all shapes and sizes, from loose waves to tight coils, and each curl is uniquely beautiful. If you've been hiding your curls under heat styling or constant straightening, it's time to set them free and unlock their full potential!

Here's a basic guide to getting started on your journey to embracing your natural curls.

Shampooing and Conditioning:

The foundation of healthy, bouncy curls starts in the shower. When shampooing curly hair, opt for sulfate-free formulas that won't strip away natural oils, which are essential for keeping curls moisturized and defined. Focus the shampoo on your scalp to cleanse away dirt and oil, then let the suds naturally cleanse the rest of your hair as you rinse. You may find a benefit in double cleansing your curly hair, or using a clarifying shampoo once a month to remove product build up that can weigh your curls down. We like to use Matrix’s A Curl Can Dream or Food for Soft shampoos.

Conditioning is key for curly hair. Look for a rich, moisturizing conditioner or a hydrating hair mask to nourish your curls and keep them hydrated. Start with the sides of your hair and back first, then work the crown section. For an extra boost of moisture, consider using a leave-in conditioner or a detangling spray to make combing through your curls easier. We like to use Matrix’s A Curl Can Dream Rich Mask or Food for Soft Conditioner

Styling:

Check out our quick styling video! https://youtube.com/shorts/h1ACDEeY15g?si=3id62kTYIFcBA7zB

When it comes to styling you’ll have to find the right combination and amounts of products that work best for your hair and your preferred outcome. The basic products for styling are:

Curl Cream (like A Curl Can Dream Moisturizing Cream)

Gel or mousse (like A Curl Can Dream Light Hold Styling Gel)

Oil (like Food For Soft oil)

Typically, curl cream and gel is used on wet hair, and foam and spray are applied after you towel dry.

When starting on your curly hair journey you may feel intimidated by gel and mousse and have flashbacks to awkward crunchy middle school hair days. But when applied correctly you’ll be able to achieve soft, touchable curls that last for days!

After you shampoo and condition your hair, section your hair into about 3 sections (maybe 4-5 if you have really thick hair). While still wet rake through a dime sized amount of curl cream to your hair per section. Then apply your gel using the same method. Rub your hands together to evenly distribute the product and then rake it into your hair. Once your product is applied gently scrunch your curls upwards towards your scalp to encourage curl formation. You may find it easier to flip your head upside down to do this. You want to hear a squishy sound when you do this. Scrunch a few times till the excess water is gone, then scrunch again (gently) with a microfiber towel, flour sack cloth, or cotton t-shirt. You’ll want to scrunch slowly and in small sections for bigger more defined curls, working roughly or quickly will often give you smaller less defined curls.

If you are looking for extra volume and hold, apply a quarter sized amount of mousse by gently laying it on top of your curls and then scrunching it. At this point try not to touch your curls too much more.

To provide extra lift around your crown you may want to add little clips to hold your hair up away from your scalp - or you can use a claw clip to lift the hair around your part.

At this point you can choose to air dry or diffuse. If diffusing, use a medium heat on low speed. The key to a successful diffusion is patience. Start by holding the heat around your curls in a still manner - don’t shake your hair dryer like you would with straight hair. Slowly hover around your head until your curls are a bit dryer. Avoid using the diffuser to “scrunch” your ends to your scalp. When air flow is blowing from ends to scalp it will blow open your hair cuticle and make your hair more frizzy. Just hover the dryer slowly above each section of hair.

You’ll know you’ve reached a successful styling when your curls have what is called “the cast” that is the crunchy curls that you may have dreaded - but don’t worry! Having a cast on your curls ensures the best outcome and will give you curls for days! Once your hair is completely dry you can break the cast by putting a little bit of hair oil on your hands and gently scrunch and shake out your curls. This will loosen your curls and give you those soft, touchable curls! The better the cast, the longer it lasts!

Refreshing Your Curls:

If you were able to achieve a cast on your curls then refreshing your curls for 2-4 (or more) days will be incredibly easy!

I recommended protective hairstyles while you sleep to ensure you don’t wake up with a completely frizzy mess. A few things you can try are sleeping with your hair in a silk bonnet, using a silk pillowcase, or tying your hair up with the “pineapple method”.

Using a silk bonnet will allow your curls to stay protective and prevent frizz, if you have long hair you may find it easier to use the pineapple method in combo with a bonnet. There are many styles of bonnets out there, so just find what works best for you!

The Pineapple Method consists of flipping your head over and tying it in a VERY loose ponytail at the top of your head where you don’t pull all your hair through on the last loop. Yes, it will look silly. You’ll want to make sure it’s really loose and isn’t pulling any pieces too tightly. It’s also beneficial to use a silk scrunchy so it doesn’t hold your hair too tightly.

In the morning depending on how you want to style your hair and how frizzy it is from sleeping you’ll probably need to spray a little bit of water. You don’t want to get it soaking wet again, just a little damp. If you shake out your curls and most of them look good you can just wet the areas you want to touch up. Somedays you may have to dampen everything. Once it’s damp you can opt for a curl refresh spray, or even put a little bit of your conditioner in your water bottle when you wet it. Then use your microfiber towel or t-shirt again to gently scrunch out the water. If you’re wanting to style your hair be sure to style it when it’s wet before your scrunch.

Getting a Curly Cut:

One of the most important steps in embracing your natural curls is getting a curly haircut. A curly cut is different from a traditional haircut because it takes into account the unique needs of curly hair, such as shrinkage and curl pattern.

During your curly cut appointment, your stylist will assess your curl pattern, face shape, and hair texture to create a customized haircut that enhances your natural curls. They may use techniques such as dry cutting to sculpt your curls and remove any weight or bulk that may be weighing them down.

After your curly cut, be sure to maintain your curls with regular trims every 8-12 weeks to keep your curls looking their best.

Embracing your natural curls is a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. By following these basic tips you can unlock the full potential of your curls and embrace the beauty of your natural hair. So toss aside the straightening iron and let your curls shine!

The Secret to Luscious Locks: The Importance of Scalp Health

Today, we're diving deep into a topic that's often overlooked but oh-so-important: scalp health! Your scalp is the foundation of your hair, and by focusing on strengthening that foundation will lead to stunning results.

Understanding Scalp Health:

Your scalp is like a garden, and your hair follicles are the flowers that sprout from it. For those luscious locks to thrive, the soil (or in this case, your scalp) must be nourished and balanced.

But what exactly does a healthy scalp look like?

A healthy scalp is clean, hydrated, and free from irritation or inflammation. It provides the perfect environment for hair growth and ensures that each strand receives the nutrients it needs to shine.

However, factors like stress, pollution, and product buildup can throw this delicate ecosystem off balance, leading to issues like dandruff, itchiness, or even hair loss.

Nurturing Your Scalp:

Just like you pamper your skin with luxurious serums and masks, your scalp deserves the same level of TLC. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Cleanse Regularly: Washing your hair regularly helps remove dirt, oil, and product buildup from your scalp, allowing it to breathe and function optimally. Opt for a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your scalp of its natural oils.

  • Massage: Treat yourself to a scalp massage during your shampoo routine. Not only does it feel heavenly, but it also stimulates blood flow to the scalp, promoting hair growth and relaxation.

  • Hydrate: Just like your skin, your scalp needs hydration to stay healthy. Look for hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid or aloe vera in your hair care products to keep your scalp happy and hydrated.

  • Protect: Shield your scalp from the elements by wearing a hat or using a UV-protective hair spray when spending time outdoors. This helps prevent sun damage and keeps your scalp safe and sound.

What is Balayage: Everything You Need To Know

Balayage is one of our most requested coloring techniques. Confused about what a balayage is? Here’s our ultimate guide to understanding Balayage!

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

What Is A Balayage?

Balayage is a French term that means “to sweep.” So when your stylist does a balayage service they are using a sweeping motion to apply color or lightener to your hair to achieve a soft and graduated coloring effect.

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

What Is The Difference Between A Balayage And An Ombre?

Balayage is a technique of applying color or lightener to the hair. An ombre is the look of having darker roots and transitioning to lighter ends. You can use the technique of balayage to achieve the look of an ombre.

How Is Balayage Different From Highlights?

Typically when someone asks for highlights, they are asking for their stylist to weave pieces of their hair, apply lightener from scalp to end on those pieces and insulate using foils. This highlight service achieves a blended and more of an overall lighter look. Usually, when someone asks for a balayage they are wanting a soft and graduated look of lighter ribbons through the hair for more of a “lived-in” look.

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

Is Balayage Bad For Your Hair?

If formulated properly, the products used in a balayage service should not damage your hair. It is imperative to disclose your hair’s full chemical history so that your stylist can formulate it correctly. We never ask questions to pass judgment on what you have, or haven’t done, with your hair in the past. We only want to know so that we can formulate properly so that the products don’t cause damage and work effectively. If your hair is fragile we may determine that several gentle lightening sessions are required to achieve your desired results. Or we may suggest using a bond preserver (like Olaplex) for a small additional cost. Proper home care is also a critical piece in making sure that your hair stays healthy after a balayage or any chemical service. One of our most popular home care items after a balayage is Fusionplex shampoo and conditioner for regular cleansing. We also recommend using Fusionplex deep conditioning hair mask once a week.

Will Balayage Cover Gray Hairs?

No, a balayage will not cover gray. But a balayage may help to blend gray hairs. Everyone’s gray pattern is different, and one blanket answer doesn’t apply to everyone. If you don’t want to see any gray at all, we suggest covering gray with a permanent color. Then you can still do a balayage to give beautiful ribbons of highlights through your ends. If you are 25% gray or more and just want to blend grays and have a soft grow-out, we suggest using a demi-permanent color on your grays and balayage at the ends.

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

Does Balayage Look Good On Straight Hair?

Yes! A beautiful and seamless balayage should still look amazing when you straighten your hair. Streaks or harsh lines happen during the application, and usually are indications that the lightener was applied too heavy and not blended. While a balayage should still look beautiful on straight hair, curling your hair will always expose more dimension in your hair and really show off the natural highs and lows in your hair color that a balayage is meant to achieve.

Can I Get A Blonde Balayage On Dark Hair?

Yes. However, you can pretty much count on having to do multiple lightening sessions (each session is charged separately). Depending on how dark your hair is, and how light you want to be, there is a lot of pigment to remove. Lightener will only work safely for approximately 60 minutes on your hair. After that time period, the lightener stops working on the pigment of your hair and starts to break down the fiber of your hair. At that point, the lightener has to be rinsed out and your hair usually needs a break and a couple of weeks of deep conditioning at home to prep for the next session of lightening. It is also extremely common that naturally, dark hair cannot physically lift past a dark blonde without becoming compromised. Healthy hair is always prettier than damaged hair, no matter what color it is!

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

How Do You Keep A Balayage From Fading?

Once you have lightened your hair, it won’t ever fade back to your natural or previous color. However, the toner or glaze used to customize the tone of blonde/lighter pieces can fade. You will notice that your hair doesn’t look quite the same after about 6 weeks. We recommend using hydrating and color-safe shampoos and conditioners (like Fusionplex) for regular washing. Also, use a purple shampoo once a week (or every two times you wash your hair) to help counteract any yellow or brassy tones in your blondes. After 6 weeks of having your hair done, you will need to come back to the salon for a tone refresh or glaze. Then after another 6 weeks (12 weeks after the first appointment) you can have a balayage touch up, and have your lighter pieces brought back up closer to your scalp.

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

Can Balayage Be Done In One Sitting?

Yes, a balayage can be done in one sitting. But depending on how dark your hair is, and how light you want to be, it may take several sessions (each session is charged separately). You will always leave with beautiful hair! It just may not be as light and bright as you want it to be in the first session. The health of your hair is most important because healthy hair is beautiful hair!

How Much Does Balayage Cost?

Here at Kellie & Company, our stylists do charge different pricing levels that reflect a stylist’s education and demand on their time. Additional product and time fees may also apply. You can expect to pay between $116-$150 for a balayage on medium-length hair with a medium thickness. Haircuts and other services are charged separately.

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

How Long Does A Balayage Last?

Probably the most appealing aspect of a balayage is that it allows for a longer time period in between touch-ups, and will still look beautiful! We recommend coming back every 6 weeks for some kind of maintenance to keep your hair looking shiny and healthy. After the first 6 weeks of getting your balayage done, we can do a tone refresh or glaze with a deep condition. And then after 12 weeks of having your hair done originally come back to have a few pieces around your face and through the top re-lightened. After another 6 weeks come back for another glaze and deep condition. And then after a total of 24 weeks have your whole head re-lightened. So you are really looking at having two bigger appointments a year (approximately 3 hours) with a couple of quick and easy maintenance appointments in between (approximately 1.5 hours).

Is Balayage Easy To Maintain?

Yes! A balayage is meant to give you beautiful ribbons of highlights for a soft lived-in look. You will never have a harsh regrowth line!

Utah Hair Salon | Balayage

Is Balayage Still In Style In 2021?

Absolutely! At Kellie & Company, we specialize in natural, classic, timeless beauty! Balayage and natural highlights will never be a fad or out of style!

Extensions West Jordan Utah

What Hair Extensions Are Best?

I wouldn’t say there is one best extension method. It really just comes down to what kind of maintenance you are willing to commit to, and what feels most comfortable for you to wear.

For temporary extensions, there are clip-in options or Halo options.

Clip-ins are great for adding length and/or thickness to specific areas on your head.

A Halo extension is a weft of hair with a clear Miracle Wire worn like a headband. It adds length and thickness to your whole head of hair. A Halo is the easiest temporary extension because you don’t have to remember what piece of hair is supposed to be clipped in a specific spot. It takes less than 2 minutes to put on, and take off.

Halo extension hair typically lasts longer than other extension pieces because you don’t sleep in it, or wash it as often. You can curl or straighten a Halo.

More permanent extension options are tape-ins, sew-ins, beads, or keratin bonds. Most of these options have some kind of in-salon maintenance that needs to be done about every 6 weeks.

Tape-ins are a great option to add length and/or thickness to specific areas of your head.

Sew-ins are a very good option to add length and thickness all over. Sew-ins are probably the easiest to be able to still pull your hair up, and have a perfect blend with your natural hair to ensure your installation method can’t be seen.

Keratin bonds are a good option for those who have thinning hair close to their part or hairline.

How Long Do Hair Extensions Last?

With proper maintenance, your extension hair can last about 1 year.

What Kind Of Extensions Does Kellie & Company Offer?

Currently, we offer tape-in extensions and Halo extensions.

How Much Do Hair Extensions Normally Cost?

The cost of hair for tape-ins depends on the thickness of your natural hair. The thicker your natural hair is, the more extension hair you will need so that the extensions don’t look thin and straggly when adding extra length.

Also, the cost of the hair increases as the length increases.

Just to give you an idea, one pack of 12-inch tape-ins typically costs $224. One pack of 22-inch tape-ins typically costs $282. The recommended amount of packs to install is usually 2-3 packs of hair. The exact amount of hair needed can be determined in a consultation.

The cost of tape-in removal/installation is $85 an hour. Installation usually takes about an hour. Removal and move-up maintenance usually take about 2.5 hours.

Halo extension prices are:

Original

12” Original $320 / Balayage $440

16” Original $370 / Balayage $490

20” Original $480 / Balayage $600

24” Original $560 / Balayage $680

Layered

14” Layered $450 / Balayage $570

18” layered $500 / Balayage $620

22” Layered $600 / Balayage $720

Are Hair Extensions Worth It?

If you do your research on what kind of method is going to be best for your lifestyle, then yes! It really is key to figure out if temporary or permanent extensions are going to be best for your lifestyle and budget.

How Do You Sleep Comfortably With Extensions?

It does take some getting used to, which usually just takes a couple of days. We recommend loosely braiding your hair before you go to bed. Do not sleep in clip-in or Halo extensions.

How Do I Rehydrate My Extensions?

Your extension hair is not nourished the same by your own natural oils. So it’s important to get a quality oil and heat protectant. We recommend Halo couture Silk Spritz or Sebastian Dark Oil. Do not use coconut oil on your extensions or natural hair. Coconut oil builds up on the hair.

Can You Wash Your Hair With Extensions?

Yes! We recommend Matrix Length Goals Shampoo and Conditioner when you have permanent extensions. Also, avoid using a conditioner close to your scalp or the area where the extension is attached. The conditioner can make the extension slip. If you have clip-ins or a Halo we recommend using Halocoutoure shampoo and conditioner. You will need to wash your clips or Halo separately from your natural hair.

How Often Do You Wash Your Hair With Extensions?

It’s recommended to wash your hair about 2 times a week. If you have clip-ins or a Halo you only need to wash the hair 1-2 times a month.

What Hairstyles Can I Do With Hair Extensions?

There is no limit to what kind of hairstyles you can do with either permanent or temporary extensions. Sometimes though with tape-ins, it can be a little uncomfortable to wear a high ponytail.

Can You Put Your Hair Up With Extensions?

YES!

Do Hair Extensions Cause Hair Loss?

If installed properly, no. It’s important to go to a certified stylist to ensure that matting, dreading, pulling, or stretching doesn’t occur. You will notice that when you take extensions out for maintenance that there is a lot of hair that is brushed out. This is because the hair that naturally falls out every day hasn’t been able to be shed because it’s been bonded either by adhesive or an anchor system.

Where To Get Hair Extensions Done?

Kellie & Company offers hair extension installations as well as some options for extensions. Book your consultation here or message/call the salon with any questions!

Curtain Bangs and Beach Waves Tutorial

Curtain Bangs are all the rage right now! Follow along with our owner as she teaches you how to style curtain bangs for a soft beach waves look!

How To Style Curtain Bangs

Tips For Styling Curtain Bangs

  • Use a round brush to blow-dry your bangs by pulling them forward in front of your face. Using a round brush will make them look light and hold their shape

  • Hold your curling iron in a vertical position to get loose beachy waves. Holding it horizontally will result in bouncy volume curls

  • Curl sections that are as big as your curling iron (in this case no more than 1 1.4 inch)

  • Hold your hair straight out from your head (90 degrees) will give you the most volume

  • Start your curls close to your scalp, not just the ends of your hair

  • Keeping tension in the piece you are curling will help you get a cleaner and more consistent curl from scalp to end

  • Keep your hot tolls at 350 degrees, and only keep your curling iron in your hair for 5-7 seconds

  • Ask for long modern layers (or increasing layers) with curtain bangs to get the best haircut for this style

Recommended Products For Curtain Bangs

  • 1 1/4 curling iron - We recommend GHD brand

  • 3” Round Brush

  • Blowdryer

  • Texture Spray

  3. Split your hair down the middle into two sections

  4. Use a ponytail to gather each side into a ponytail close to the middle part you just created. On the last time lopping your ponytail, don’t pull it all the way to create a little bun.

  5. When you have two little buns place your fingers in the middle of one bun and pull the second bun through.

  6. Bobby pin in place.

All products can be purchased at Kellie & Company

  • Dry Shampoo: It works best when you apply it to freshly washed hair, and then use it a little bit each day as needed. That way it absorbs the oil before it makes your hair oily.

Everything You Need To Know About Brazilian Blowouts

Brazilian Blowout Utah

Brazilian Blowouts have become increasingly more popular over the last few years. But what do they actually entail? In this article, we answer the most frequently asked questions about Brazilian Blowouts.

What Does A Brazilian Blowout Do To Your Hair?

A Brazilian Blowout is a protein treatment for your hair. This treatment seals keratin protein into your hair to eliminate frizz, add shine, and strengthen the hair fiber.

How Is A Brazilian Blowout Different From Other Keratin Treatments?

Brazilian Blowouts have a few main benefits over other keratin treatment including:

CUSTOMIZABLE - Choose to keep and define your curls OR go for a sleek and smooth look.

GREAT FOR ALL HAIR TYPES - Is your hair wavy, straight, curly, coily, just crazy frizzy? We’ve got you covered!

NO WAITING PERIOD - The minute you leave the salon you can immediately wash your hair, exercise, put it in a ponytail or clip without having to wait days to do so.

NO LINE OF DEMARCATION WITH NEW HAIR GROWTH - This is great for transitioning from Japanese straighteners, relaxers or keratin treatments.

Is A Brazilian Blowout Bad For Your Hair?

No! The Brazilian Blowout will actually improve the health of color-treated/highlighted hair by conditioning the hair while sealing the cuticle for enhanced color, reduced frizz and radiant shine.

Will A Brazilian Blowout Make My Hair Completely Straight?

If your hair is wavy, the Brazilian Blowout will make your hair appear smooth and healthy. If your hair is very curly, it will minimize frizz while enhancing the appearance of the natural wave/curl. If you have straight, frizzy hair, this treatment will eliminate frizz and promote radiant shine.

How Much Does A Brazilian Blowout Cost?

Our starting price at Kellie & Company for a Brazilian Blowout is $220. Our salon company does offer different pricing levels that reflect a stylist’s demand on their time.

How Long Does A Brazilian Blowout Take?

Our Brazilian Blowout treatment takes about 2.5-3 hours in the salon.

How Long Does A Brazilian Blowout Last?

The manufacturer claims it can last up to 12 weeks. But we have seen it last as long as 20 weeks for some guests. The Brazilian Blowout is a cumulative treatment, in that the more you receive it, the healthier the hair will be, and the longer the result will last.

How Do You Maintain A Brazilian Blowout?

Using the Açai After-Care Maintenance Shampoo, Conditioner, and Daily Serum all help to maintain your treatment for as long as possible. If you maintain your Brazilian Blowout it will help it to last longer.

Common Hair Myths You Didn't Think About

Utah Hair Salon

We were featured on the radio! Listen to our segment here

Coconut oil is good for your hair... MYTH.

Getting a good oil to hydrate the ends of your hair is a great thing to have, but one to stay away from is straight coconut oil. Coconut oil alone is made up of a molecule too large to actually penetrate the hair shaft, which in turn is doing your hair nothing beneficial. In fact, because it coats the hair, it is very difficult to cleanse out of your hair. When you go to heat style your hair after using coconut oil, you’re basically COOKING the oil into your hair. Some other great alternatives would be Sebastian Dark Oil, Pureology Smooth Perfection Serum, Wella Perfect Me, or Wella Oil Reflections Serum you can get them at the salon!

It’s better to come to my color appointment with dirty hair… FALSE! It’s best CLEAN!

I remember hearing through the years that it was better to come with dirty hair for several reasons. However, it’s actually been proven to be better for your hair and your color service if you come with clean hair! When your hair is clean it ensures even application and coverage because the hair cuticle is not coated with your natural oils or hair product.

Henna hair dye is more natural, therefore it’s better for my hair... BIG FAT FALSE.

Any hair color that is not professional grade (aka used in a salon) is not worthy of your gorgeous hair! Box dyes and hennas are always risky because we simply just don’t know what’s in them. And in a lot of scenarios, when you come to get your hair professionally done again, it’s very possible for a chemical reaction to occur on your hair. Hennas in particular are the biggest culprits. They may claim to be more natural, but overall the ingredients they use are very harmful for your hair, and make it so basically you’re only option is to grow that sweet hair of yours out and chop it off before you professionally color it again! For example, my cousin came into the salon wanting to lighten her hair. Almost a year prior she had put a dark blue henna over her already dark hair. You couldn’t even SEE the henna. We didn’t even know where it had grown out to. We did a test strand with lightener before we went all on, and her hair didn’t even lighten... IT TURNED SEAFOAM GREEN. She since has chopped her hair off so we could finally give her a cute new color!

Eyelash extensions will ruin my natural lashes and make them fall out and they’ll never be the same again.... F A L S E.

A BIG myth in the lash world is that. And yes, it WAS true. Before eyelash extensions were regulated by a license, anyone could buy supplies and start doing eyelash extensions. Because there was no training, not real research had been done regarding how to keep lashes healthy and strong. Now, as long as your artist is trained, you should not have to worry about that any more! Yes, your lashes will still fall out, but guess what... IT’S NORMAL! Your lashes go through a natural shedding cycle. A cycle usually lasts about 6 weeks. In that cycle your lashes are going through three phases: a baby stage, a growing stage, and a long, healthy & gorgeous stage. This is why it is important to get a lash fill every 2-3 weeks. Even if they’re staying on great, they’re growing out! Which means most of them will need to be replaced anyway. So do your sweet lashes a favor and schedule your fill appointments 2-3 weeks out.

I found the same professional product in the grocery store, SCORE!

PUT THAT DOWN, HONEY.

There is a law and regulation that says that any professional product must only be sold in salons or through distributors. Because of that, any “professional” product you see on Amazon, in Ross, Walmart, Smith’s, Target, etc. is a big fat faker. Yes, it could still be the product, but by law, since they aren’t allowed to sell them in those stores, the product is either A) watered down or B) expired. A few weeks ago I found some Pureology shampoo and conditioner on the shelf at Smith’s. The packaging alone told me that it was several years old because Pureology has since repackaged several times since that version that was on the shelf at Smith’s. Make sure you are not spending your money on useless product! Listen to your stylist, they know what’s up :)

AND ANOTHER THING. If you’re investing in your hair at the salon, you PUT THAT PANTENE DOWN! (And all other grocery store products.)

Those products are full of water, alcohol, and other fillers that will fade your color 10x as quick as your professional hair care. It’s almost like buying a spanking new car without an insurance policy! Again, listen to your stylist, we care about your hair!!

3 Signs You Need A Brazilian Blowout - A Clients Perspective

A Clients Perspective On Brazilian Blowouts

And 3 Signs You Need One NOW!

Brazilian Blowout

Hey guys! My name is Makayla Hendricks and I've been seeing Breanne Miller at Kellie and Company for almost four years now! A couple years ago she encouraged me to try a Brazilian Blowout and I was cautious to say the least. I had frizzy, unmanageable curls - and I didn't want anything to mess them up. I hated my curls because they were always so unpredictable. One day (the days I didn't try of course) they would be really cute and perfect, and the next it would be a frizzy mess! Most of the time I wore my hair up which always made me feel like a tomboy and I hated it. But I figured that was that - until my life changed with my first Brazilian Blowout! My first Brazilian Blowout left my hair so soft and I could literally let it air dry and it would be straight and soft! (No more frizz or weird waves) I could touch it up with a straightening iron here and there - but most of the time I was ready to go! (Remember Princess Diaries? Ya, it felt just like that!)

Brazilian Blowout

It lasted me a few months before I did it agin, and my second and third blowouts lasted longer and longer each time. I've gone a long time without getting it done again - mostly because life is crazy! But I'm getting ready to move to Florida next month so I HAD to get it done (fight that humidity *UGH*). I decided to do a comparison video to show you just how LIFE CHANGING Brazilian Blowouts really are! Watch the video with a time comparison of my morning routine before vs now!

3 Signs You Need A Brazilian Blowout NOW!

1. Your Hair Controls Your LIFE!

I've been there - you literally have to plan your weeks activities around your hair. Want to go swimming? Better not be going out on a date later. Want to look cute? Ya that takes like 2-3 days notice. Between washing curly hair and then blow drying it (without dying of heat in your bathroom or setting off the smoke alarms) it's a workout and a commitment. I was always jealous of those girls who 'wash their hair at night and sleep on it' yeah no....if I did that I'd wake up to a giant knot! Now I can literally shower and blow dry my hair and be ready to go in 10-15 minutes, whereas before doing my hair was a 2-3 hour process. And wanna hear the best part?! It looks so much better than before without the work! Plus, if I want I can throw product in it and get pretty beach waves too.

2. Your Curls Never Listen

Only naturally curly girls understand this! In high school I was TERRIFIED of anyone brushing much less touching my curls. I knew they would poof with the slightest interaction. Rain? Oh heck no. Lacrosse Practice? Ya, ain't going out after that. It was a rough life. I was always so jealous of those girls with pretty curls and hairstyles because I was lucky to have even brushed through my hair that morning! If you have those awkward, half wave - half straight curls - this would be INCREDIBLE for you! Finally find freedom from your frustration with your hair, and start living your life!

3. You Live For Wearing Buns - because well, it's not worth it

I've been there too - and even got made fun of in middle school for it. While other girls were learning how to curl with a flat iron - I was perfecting my tight ballerina bun (that often gave me headaches) because it's all I could count on. Now that I skip the frizzy, hour long straightening session I can actually DO my hair and look cute - instead of looking like I just finished a workout.

The best thing about a Brazilian Blowout? FREEDOM! Freedom from hours in the bathroom. Freedom to actually do something with your hair without 'angering the beast'. It's worth the investment in your hair, I promise you that! If you can rock your natural curls - awesome! If you're frustrated with them - give Kellie and Company a visit! You'll be hooked just wait.
